1/27/2024 ...Flow

Hi Dancers! We are coming to the end of January 2024. Which means we have completed our first month of our #DanceImprovFlow theme. The end of the month always takes me by surprise. There is always so much to do. I need to take a look at our group class schedule. Check in with all the private lesson students on holidays or breaks. I need to assess which classes students want more or less of, and which are the most beneficial at the moment. I'm looking at skill levels and adding more challenges to routines and also leveling up that technique. Focusing on improvisation is also a time to work on mindfulness. Taking this time to really be aware of our bodies and how they move. We do this in so many ways in dance class. We work on isolations, or moving one part of our body, or muscle group, at a time. We use dynamic and static stretches to work on mobility and flexibilty, taking a moment to focus on release. Zoning in on any areas that might be tight and need a bit more focus. Dance is always a process. Even professionals will state the benefits of circling around and coming back to basics. As you improve in your dancing, you may plateau. You go back to the barre....go back to what you know and start again, but this time with knowledge, awareness, and mindfulness. You will continue to progress and learn as you flow from one level to the next. We flow from one month to the next, learning new skills, learning new steps, practicing them, improving them. When we get stuck, we circle back and start again, pushing past the challenges and progressing forward. We spiral in and we spiral out again. We move. We flow. As we end January and start a new month of Dance in February, take a moment to be mindful. Check in with your body and take note of how far you have come. Every day we get to move and dance is a blessing. Keep flowing. Keep dancing. Keep improvising.
