Dance is a powerful way to express yourself, stay active, and connect with others. At DWMC, we believe dance should be accessible to everyone, which is why we offer affordable online dance lessons for all skill levels. Most of the time, our virtual classes run smoothly, but sometimes schedules shift due to performances or travel. This post will help you understand these changes and offer practical advice to stay consistent and motivated in your dance journey.

Understanding Schedule Changes and What to Expect

Our virtual dance lessons are designed to fit into your busy life, but occasionally, classes get cancelled or rescheduled. These changes usually happen because our instructors have performance commitments or travel plans. For example:

  • No Friday night classes on July 17, 2026, due to dress rehearsals

  • No Saturday classes on July 18, 2026, because of performances

  • Additional classes will be added after July 19, 2026, to make up for missed sessions or for extra training/coaching.

  • Our Tuesday night Tap Classes will return at the end of the month.

We appreciate your patience and support during these times. We encourage you to keep checking the calendar regularly for updates on class times and new offerings.

Why Consistency Matters in Dance Practice

Dance improvement comes from regular practice. Just like in music, where rests are part of the rhythm, taking breaks is important. But the key is to balance rest with dedication. Here’s why staying consistent matters:

  • Builds strength, mobility, and flexibility

  • Reinforces muscle memory and technique

  • Helps you progress steadily through dance levels

  • Keeps your body and mind engaged

When life gets busy or you’re on vacation, it’s okay to pause. But once you’re ready, jump back in and keep challenging yourself. Discipline in dance means showing up even when it’s tough.

How to Stay Motivated During Breaks and Schedule Changes

It’s natural to feel frustrated when classes are cancelled or your routine is disrupted. Here are some tips to stay motivated:

  • Use cancelled class days to review past lessons or practice fundamentals

  • Try a new dance style from our summer courses, like Tap, Jazz, or Folk

  • Set small goals for each week, such as mastering a specific move or improving posture

  • Join private lessons to focus on your personal dance interests and choreography

  • Remember that every dancer faces ups and downs; persistence leads to progress

Focus on Foundations and Basics

This year, we are emphasizing the foundations and basics of dance. Whether you are a beginner or advanced, drilling progressions regularly helps you improve. There is no secret to getting better—just keep dancing and working hard. Some days will be challenging, but those are the days when growth happens.

Exploring New Styles and Private Lessons

Summer is a great time to explore new dance styles. Our online classes include:

  • Ballet

  • Tap

  • Jazz

  • Modern/Contemporary

  • Folk

If you want to learn something specific or work on choreography, private lessons are available. Many students use one-on-one sessions to explore different genres and develop their own style.

Tips for Making Time to Dance Every Day

Finding time to dance daily can be challenging, but it’s possible with some planning:

  • Schedule your dance time like an appointment

  • Create a dedicated space at home for practice

  • Use short warm-ups or drills if you’re pressed for time

  • Mix up your routine to keep it interesting

  • Track your progress to stay motivated

Remember, even 10-15 minutes of focused practice can make a difference.

Dance is a journey that requires patience, dedication, and flexibility. Changes in our virtual dance lessons are part of that journey, and we are committed to supporting you every step of the way. Keep showing up, keep practicing, and keep enjoying the joy of dance. Your progress will come with time and effort. Check the calendar often, try new classes, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you want to explore private lessons or need guidance.
